Sealants are applied to the tops of a person’s permanent teeth. Their purpose is to keep bacteria and debris from finding their way into those many natural tooth crevices. Dental sealants are particularly appropriate (and effective) for children. We’d love to talk about them with you.
Yes, sometimes teeth get knocked out or removed for any number of reasons. But there’s a solution. Several, in fact. Bridges are natural-looking dental appliances that can replace a section of missing teeth. An implant replaces one tooth, although several implants can be used in a row. A crown is a bit different because it saves a tooth that is failing, but can also be used to attach bridges. We can help you choose the best solution.
If you have a section of missing teeth, a bridge would be an ideal solution. Bridges have a surprisingly natural appearance. And because your bridge would be custom made just for you, it would probably be barely noticeable. There are many types. Make an appointment and let’s talk.
Crowns are used in a multitude of ways. They can prevent a cracked tooth from worsening, attach bridges, cover implants, restore the appearance of a discolored tooth, and so much more. Do you deserve a crown? Make an appointment and let’s talk about it.
Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy is pretty amazing. It’s used to restore the healthiness of a tooth that, many years ago, would have been extracted because there was no other alternative. During root canal therapy your dentist will gain access to the inside of the tooth, remove the pulp, clean and disinfect the inside, then restore the tooth using a filling or crown. If you have a diseased tooth, this is the solution.
When repeated fillings, a crown, root canal therapy, or other dental treatments are unsuccessful at saving a tooth, the tooth will need to be extracted. (That’s fancy talk for “pulled.”) Wisdom teeth, on the other hand, are sometimes intentionally pulled to make room for other teeth. Using a combination of modern-day sedatives, anesthetics, and antibiotics, extracting a tooth is much more tolerable than it used to be.
Scaling and Root Planning
This procedure is ideal for cleaning a tooth beneath the gum line. First step: apply a local anesthetic. Next step: use an ultrasonic cleaner called a “scaler” to remove both tartar and plaque from the root. The tooth is then “planed” to make it smooth and encourage gum-reattachment. If you have, or will someday get, periodontal (gum) disease, we should talk.
This surgery becomes necessary when deep pockets form on a tooth under the gum line. The pockets harbor bacteria. To reach that bacteria, the dentist lifts the gums (forming “flaps,”) the exposed area is treated, and the gums are stitched back into place. Dr. Segal and Dr. Uzel offer many services like this to handle whatever you need to get better.
Dentures have been around for many years because they provide a solution to many appreciative people. Choices include complete dentures, partial dentures, and overdentures. TMD / TMJ treatment
Dr. Segal's treatment philosophy is conservative and non-surgical for TMD -- as well as for head, neck, and facial pain. Once a patient is properly diagnosed, Dr. Segal may use selected treatments such as: custom orthotic (splint); spray and stretch; nutrition counseling or referral; energex (pulsed radiofrequency tissue stimulator); iontophoresis; trigger point injection; and jaw, head, and neck exercises.
Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea are serious business, causing people to literally stop breathing for up to 10 seconds or more a time. Dr. Segal has a unique solution that does not include surgery or the use of the traditional CPAP unit. It’s an appliance that fits in the mouth and keeps the patient’s airway expanded. Make an appointment if you want to learn more. It’ll be worth it.
For decades, dentures were the only viable way to replace a missing tooth. Now we have other options, including dental implants. People love them. We surgically place dental implants but also service existing dental implants.
Want to restore a beautiful smile? Then cosmetic dentistry -- also called esthetic dentistry – might be for you. Common esthetic dental procedures are performed to correct misshaped, discolored, chipped, or missing teeth. Some of the more-common procedures involve implants, bonding, contouring and reshaping, veneers, whitening and bleaching.
